D60-Pol; 1860 Polonaise

6-piece pattern.
Part of a Victorian series of patterns with the former TheBarringtonHouse.org, these patterns are according to today's sizing standards.  3/8" seams are allowed.

Originally circulated December 21, 1860 in La Mode Illustrée; the latest from Paris!  This polonaise closes at the front with hooks and eyes and is trimmed with piping, 1-1/8” ruched ribbon and buttons.  One may make buttonholes in the right front and sew buttons to correspond on the left front. The center back and all seams of the bodice are boned.  The outside sleeve seam is trimmed with piping, ruched ribbon and buttons to match, as are the sleeve revers and pockets.  Piping is sewn in each armseye.

Three or four rows of black velvet may optionally be added at the hem of the skirt.  If so, one would also cover the buttons with black velvet to match.

Note: The original design calls for turning the skirt hem 4-1/2”, but we have provided a 3/8” turning so a facing may be stitched instead.  It is the maker’s preference how to finish the hem in light of this advice.

SUGGESTED FABRICS: Homespun, muslin, faille, taffeta, light wool, plain or printed cottons.

Size set A fits 10-18 (32-1/2" to 40" bust, 25" to 32" waist, 34-1/2" to 42" hip).

Size set B fits 20-28 (42" to 50" bust, 34" to 44" waist, 44" to 53" hip).
